In case you’re having trouble, here’s how to find the engineering books in The Outer Worlds. It can be difficult to track these down among the litany of other items. But Terra 2 is a vast place and books, for the most part, are pretty small. Giving him all three volumes will complete the quest.The Outer Worlds The Frightened Engineer mission sets you out on a fetch quest: find three engineering books across Terra 2. Return to Thomas and give him the volume. This volume will be laying against the wall near his sleeping bag. Work your way to the bottom of this room to locate Higgins. Enter the doorway to arrive in a room with a giant funnel like container holding some red/orange liquid (a man named Higgins will be telling you to go away). Once you pass through the doorway, take a left and go straight across the room (heading north) passing some crates coming to yet another doorway. Turn right then follow the walkway down a ramp, taking a right at the bottom through another doorway. Keeping going forward down a flight of stairs and through another doorway (this door will need to be unlocked from the other side) bringing you to a metal walkway. From the main entrance, head north (past the vending machine on the left) and through the doorway. Make your way to the geothermal plant and enter the building (you get the passcode during the Stranger in a Strange Land main quest). If you haven’t been here yet, you will need to clear out the marauders. Head to the Emerald Vale Community Center located south east of the Botanical Lab and enter the building.
